Oregon Energy Facility Siting Council to Hold a Public Meeting on Cascade Wind Project

July 26, 2007

The Dalles, Ore Representatives from UPC Wind, a leader in U.S. wind power production, will be in attendance at tonight¹s Energy Facility Siting Council (EFSC) on the Cascade Wind Project. The meeting will take place at the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Energy providers looking to construct facilities in Oregon must undergo theEFSC site certification process to gain approval for construction and implementation of their facilities. The Council reviews site certification proposals and determines compliance with state energy facility siting standards along with the equirements of other state and local permitting agencies. After submitting its initial application in April, UPC was asked by the Oregon Department of Energy to provide additional information in response to agency and public comments.

"We look forward to hearing from local residents who attend tonight's meeting," said Krista Kisch, UPC vice president, business development.. "We are at the beginning of a long process toward site approval, and appreciate the time folks are spending to participate in the siting process. We are reviewing all of the comments received so far, and plan to provide a supplement to the original application by Aug. 31."

Cascade Wind is a proposed 60-megawatt wind farm in Wasco County near The Dalles. UPC Wind has proposed construction of 40 General Electric wind turbine generators at the Cascade Wind Farm site. Each turbine has a 1.5-megawatt production capacity. The total energy output of the proposed project could power as many as 12,000 homes.
